Windows Installer Error Messages: How Can You Fix Them?

By: Chad Kiser

There are many times when you go to install new software on your PC, the computer's operating system will utilize Windows Installer to handle the installation and setup process. Occasionally the Windows Installer can encounter problems which cause it to not function right. This will often lead to the inability to install (or uninstall) computer programs. These error messages and codes sometimes appear as:

* "The Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed"

* "Windows Installer Service Couldn't be Started"

* "Could Not Start the Windows Installer Service on Local Computer..."

If you have run into one of these error messages, you will need to repair the messed up install of Windows Installer. This can be done by you if you are capable and if not it could be challenging. If you are uncomfortable repairing it on your own, you can call a repair guy or take your PC to the location where you purchased it and speak with the IT team (at Best Buy this is called the Geek Squad and a Circuit City it is known as Firedog).

An easier choice that won't cost you an arm and a leg is to use a Registry Cleaner program like Registry Mechanic. This type of software will conduct a scan (at no cost normally) and identify issues with your windows registry that may be interacting with your Windows installer ability to operate. If the software finds problems, you can decide whether or not to buy it to repair the error and get your Windows Installer up and running correctly.

Many error messages on your PC may be caused by issues in your Windows registry. The more programs you install and remove from a computer can clog up your system which might case these types of problems. If only a few of the codes and data in the registry disagree with one and other, they can cause errors and problems - similar to this Windows Installer error.

There are many programs on the market today capable of solving this problem. Find a good program is as easy as going to your preferred software download site and reading consumer reviews. You can also go to trusted magazines like PC Magazine and see if they have a recommended choice. A few of the more popular software programs include Registry Mechanic, RegCure, Registry Fix and Error Doctor.

As discussed earlier, just about all of these programs offer a demo version so you can test them out before you have to make a buying decision.
